Shannon Tessier, PhD
Shannon Tessier, PhD, is a scientist at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital, where she leads surgical research in the Department of Surgery. Her work focuses on improving organ transplantation and developing ways to preserve organs and tissues at very low temperatures for future use.
Dr. Tessier began her career studying how animals naturally enter suspended animation, and now applies those lessons to human medicine. Her lab is creating new tools to better protect donor organs, test their quality before transplant, and extend how long they can be stored.
She has received multiple national awards for her research, serves on scientific boards and review panels, and has held leadership roles in professional societies. At Massachusetts General Hospital, she also supports the research efforts of surgeons and trainees, helping to guide strategy, resources, and growth for the department.
